Directing Breath in the Body

August 18, 2011 by Pranada Comtois Leave a Comment

We have amazing capacity to breathe into various parts of our body. Try this experiment to experience the truth of this yourself. If you have any trouble sending breath to one of the areas targeted below, try placing your hand on that spot and breath into your hand. There’s no hurry. Sometimes it takes a moment to sense the spot you want to breath into. If so, breath slowly a few times until you “find” the area with your breath. Both are experiences normal as we learn to direct our breath.

Breathe several times into your stomach. You will see your stomach rise and fall with each inhale and exhale.

Now focus on breathing into your chest only. Your chest will rise and fall and your stomach will remain still.

Breathe into your diaphragm, the area of your lower rib cage above your stomach. You will see your rib cage below your chest rise and fall.

You have just sent your breath to a specific area of your body. In the same way, focus on the area of your heart and breath into that area.
