“He only profits from praise who values criticism.” –Heinrich Heine, German poet
I find criticism is a great teacher if I look at it as opportunity to learn. I love learning. I thirst for knowledge, especially knowledge of the Heart. Heart means honesty and that must begin with being honest with oneself. When someone criticizes me, my thinking, my process, I’m forced to think more deeply about truths. I find this fascinating, as difficult as it can be at times.
So I add to Heine’s quote, “He only profits from praise who values criticism. Such a person becomes wise.”
What do you think? What is your experience with criticism?
Warms hearts to you and yours,
P.S. There’s been a tradegy in our family. Meena, my granddauther, was bitten in the face by a dog last Monday. I am posting a blog entry on that experience soon. The event has generated powerful movements of my heart and mind, in ways I know we all experience when we face loss, our fears, and our lessons.
This picture of Meena was taken the evening before she was bitten. My precious creamy face has been scared by time. Many lessons and insights. We have high hopes, and we continue to share delights in love, too. She’s had four stitches and will be all right, but she’ll have a scar. Time will tell how much.
More soon.
